  High Strength Low Alloy steels

A significant weight reduction can be achieved with the High Strength Low Alloy steels.

The lighter the trailer, the heavier the payload that can be transported.

Properties

High Strength Low Alloy steels (HSLA) are characterised by a high ductility, controlled internal purity, fine grain structure and a low carbon content.

Advantages

High Strength Low Alloy steels combine:

  • Outstanding mechanical properties
    • High strength
    • Toughness
    • Fatigue resistance
  • Good formability
  • Good weldability

With their high tensile strength, they are an excellent choice when weight saving is a priority, and they are frequently used to replace structural steels.

Applications

High Strength Low Alloy steels are used in a wide range of applications in transport (earth movers, trailers, agricultural and railroad machinery etc), profiling (racks etc) and building (cranes, safety barriers, light poles etc).
Significant weight reductions can be achieved by using HSLA, especially for cranes and heavy vehicle trailers, thus allowing a larger payload.
